AUSTRALIA’S FAVOURITE INTERNATIONAL FOOD CUISINES

Australian’s still love a wide range of international cuisines according to a recent Roy Morgan survey published in February. Chinese still tops the list with no change over the last 4 years (comparing 2013/14 to 2017/18) with 70% of those surveyed listing it as their favourite.

Italian remains a favourite as the 2nd highest in popularity, with 62% listing it as their preferred choice, a 2% increase over the last 4 years.  Greek food, favoured by a smaller 36% of those surveyed, ranks at 7th but has increase by 4%.

Over the last 4 years the biggest growth is a 6% increase in the popularity of Japanese food, improving from 36% to 42%. There has been a similar growth of 5% in the trend towards Middle Eastern, and 4% increase in popularity of Lebanese food.  Quality versions of these cuisine styles focus on fresh ingredients and communal style eating – both growing trend areas in food across the world.

Indian (4th), Thai (3rd) and Mexican (5th) have all seen a growth in popularity of over 3% and remain a go to choice for most Australians.

These insights analysing the cuisine preferences of Australians are derived from the Roy Morgan Single Source survey which is based on in-depth personal interviews conducted with over 50,000 Australians each year in their own homes.
