CLUBS PHO-NOMINAL FOOD CHALLENGE

As part of the first birthday celebrations for Cabra-Vale Diggers dining precinct District 8, the club launched a food challenge promotion, designed to raise awareness and to engage and attract some of the younger community members to the club.

District 8’s Man v’s Pho Food Challenge took place on Thursday November 1.

142 people tried their luck over the duration of District 8’s Man v’s Pho Food Challenge which started on September 13. They came from the local community, across the city and even as far away as Newcastle, but only the ten fastest to finish the giant bowl of pho where guaranteed a place in the grand final eat off.  Each of the contenders qualified by cleaning their bowl in 45 minutes or less.

Only seven of the ten grand finalists lined up on grand final night on November 1 to try and claim the $1,500 Travel Voucher first prize. An early favourite was Jordon Boddam-Whetham from Naremburn who smashed out an impressive 6 minutes to lead the qualifiers.

However, he didn’t stand a chance when the ultimate winner, Winnolit Bhuntamnotchrarod from Ultimo, blitzed the field by finishing the 2.2kg bowl of noodle soup in an astonishing 5 minutes and 35 seconds. A time that was more than three minutes faster than the second placed contestant and nearly 10.5 minutes faster than his own qualifying time.

The competition was supported with in-house displays and proved to be a social media sensation with over 100,000 people following the competition and discussing it online. The Grand Final was also streamed live and shared across the Clubs main social media sites.

The Man V’s Pho challenge has been so successful, Cabra-Vale Diggers plan to run it as a yearly event.
