CMAA PARTNERS WITH THE BLACK DOG INSTITUTE TO MANAGE MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING ISSUES IN THE REGISTERED CLUB WORKPLACE

The CMAA is pleased to advise members that the nationally recognised Black Dog Institute has partnered with the Association in providing our club managers with a dedicated & renowned Workplace Mental Health & Wellbeing awareness program to be delivered around the Zones: ‘Understanding and managing your mental health’.

Improving mental health literacy & reducing stigma across an organisation are two of the most effective strategies in promoting workforce wellbeing, promoting earlier & more effective help seeking behaviours & subsequently reducing the impact of mental ill health at an individual & organisational level.

This practically focussed, interactive, 3hr face to face workshop is delivered by an experienced clinician to a group of up to 25 participants. The program will include case studies & contextualised activities related to the club industry workplace.

Participants will:

  • explore common myths about mental illness & the impact of stigma at an individual & organisational level
  • gain insight into common mental health conditions, their prevalence in the workplace & how to identify them in the work setting
  • understand issues & responsibilities around disclosure
  • develop skills to have effective conversations about mental health, & understand the range of help & resources available inside & outside of the workplace

CMAA Federal President Mr David Hiscox says ‘dealing with the pressures of being a club manager is challenging & often overwhelming when working in a stressful & dynamic environment such as a registered club. The pull & push of expectations from the board, staff & customers to consistently meet & exceed expectations can take a toll on individual managers. I encourage all members to consider participating in the program for their own betterment & those with whom they work with’.

CMAA Head Office will be working with the CMAA Zone Committees in the first part of 2019 co-ordinating the program in their local areas so as to maximise participation & accessibility particularly for regional members.

For further details on this initiative please contact CMAA Executive Officer Ralph Kober in the first instance on 0418 963 057 or . Individual clubs are welcome to explore the potential for having the program delivered in their own workplace for their board & staff.
