DO YOU RUN AUSTRALIA’S KINDEST CAFE?
Celebrate International Coffee Day and support Youth Off the Streets Thursday 1st October 2020
Aussies love their coffee with one in four people saying they can’t survive the day without it. That’s more than enough reason to recognise International Coffee Day on October 1, 2020, but let’s take it a step further.
Let’s make it a day to celebrate good coffee and a good cause!
Youth Off The Streets (YOTS) is asking clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops across the country to make every cup of coffee sold that day count towards bettering a young Australian’s life by supporting their inaugural CUP OF KINDNESS DAY.
What is Cup Of Kindness Day
Participating outlets are being asked to donate 50c from every hot drink (coffee, tea or hot chocolate) sold on October 1, 2020. YOTS appreciate hospitality outlets have done it hard through the COVID-19 shutdown, but they also know that they have a bigger heart than most. With the average coffee costing between 33c and 57c to make, depending on the size and inclusions, and retailing for around $4, they hope it is not too big an ask for one day. They are seeking a little from a lot, to spread the idea of kindness through coffee.
It is also a great way to connect with your members and your community and drive visitation and coffee sales. It is a feel-good inducement to give people a reason to come to your club. If you have a contract caterer you may want to share the donation or use as a promotional driver. It is a small investment to make for a positive change.
YOTS also ask you to encourage your customers to at least match your 50c with an added donation.
Why You Should Become A Kindness Cafe
Youth Off The Streets will be undertaking a major media push to promote International Coffee Day and Cup of Kindness Day – including looking for Australia’s Kindest Café. They are working with many distributors and organisations including ClubsNSW and Hennessy Coffee to make it a great event that will benefit your business and connect with your staff, members and customers.
It is an opportunity for your club to leverage the Cup Of Kindness Day promotional materials supplied to registered participants (print, digital and social) to promote your business, sell more product and be recognised in the community.
How to become a Kindness Coffee Shop
To register simply click this link and register your details. >>>
https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/cup-of-kindness-day-registration-105047012442
Once you have registered, you will receive a return email confirming your participation along with a link to access all the Cup of Kindness Day promotional material. You will also be sent tips and examples of how best to use these to help you maximise sales in the lead up to the big day.
You don’t need to sell a specific amount of coffee to become involved. There is no minimum amount and every little drop of kindness helps. For example, if you sell 300 cups on that day, you would have committed to donating $150 towards Youth Off The Streets, if you sell 100 cups, your minimum commitment would be $50. Any customer donations would be in addition to that.
Simply use your final till sales numbers from October 1 to tally your total cup sales for the day. It is suggested you also add a donation button of 50c to your till. If a customer wishes to donate something extra, you can tally their donated amount in 50c increments automatically. You could of course, just use a donation bucket if you wish. It’s up to you.

Why Youth Off The Streets needs your help
Just like most businesses and charities, 2020 has been a more than challenging year. The majority of fundraising events have been cancelled or postponed, and many community dollars have, understandably, gone to assist crisis events like bushfires and flood.
This year has also seen an extraordinary demand on YOTS services. The rise in domestic violence alone (a major trigger for youth homelessness), has seen a record rise of between 30%-40%. In a time when everyone is told to stay home and stay safe, what do you do when you have no place to call home?
All these exceptional conditions find YOTS is in dire need of funds to continue their vital services.
Here are just a few things to consider:
- On any given night, there are 43,555 homeless young people in Australia. That would fill a large sports stadium.
- 42% of all homeless Australians are under the age of 25.
- There are over 15,000 homeless Australian children under the age of 12,000
- 5 students in an average classroom of 30 (1 in 6 kids) are living in poverty.
And these statistics are increasing every day.
About Youth Off The Streets
Youth Off The Streets is a non-denominational community organisation working for disadvantaged young people who may be homeless, drug dependent and/or recovering from abuse. Youth Off The Streets supports these young people as they work to turn their lives around and overcome immense personal trauma such as neglect, physical, psychological and/or emotional abuse. It is our goal that these young people will leave our care drug free, with a high school education, living skills and a full-time or part time job in hand.
Since opening in 1991, Youth Off The Streets has grown from a single food van delivering meals to young homeless people on the streets of Kings Cross to a major youth specific agency offering a full continuum of care through delivery of a wide range of services.
Our 35 services include aboriginal programs, crisis accommodation, alcohol and other drug services, counselling, accredited high schools, outreach and residential programs. Volunteers support us every step of the way.
ClubsNSW, has been a proud Gold partner of Youth Off the Streets since 2000.
