FACIAL RECOGNITION – HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THE CONCERNS?
While facial recognition is readily accepted for many situations – eg unlocking your smartphone – the public remains a bit wary about what the technology may mean to them.
High levels of regulation and the potential problems caused by entry of suspended, banned or self-excluded individuals mean that many clubs are seriously thinking about this application. Some clubs are already using facial recognition effectively.

This can be very real problem. If your security wrongly identifies a person as a banned member or fails to identify the entry of a self-excluded person, it could cause you serious problems.
And this has been experienced by some clubs. But it is not a problem caused by the Facial Recognition System – it is more likely a problem with the image database already in use.
PROTECTION OF PERSONAL DATA
Using facial recognition, in most cases, does not add an extra information level to what is already collected and held by clubs. It is important that your existing privacy and data collection policies are very clear about how members’ and guests’ information is protected.
HOW FACIAL RECOGNITION DATA IS CAPTURED AND USED
Clubs have very compelling legal and security reasons for implementing and using recognition technology. It is important those reasons are clear, understood by your team and available to members.
Furthermore, Facial Recognition “images” are, in fact, only a sequence of digital symbols used to match against similar sequences generated by your reference database. These sequences cannot reproduce the facial image and therefore no identifiable images are maintained by facial recognition systems.
