FROM CONCERNING TIMES COME CREATIVE IDEAS.

David Hart CEO from Deniliquin RSL Club has changed the face of the club while still providing a service for the community.

Along with the support of his board and team, David quickly jumped into action with a terrific idea that is keeping his staff employed and busy.

David explains that the idea germinated actually 5 years ago when he was in talks with Aldi regarding the vacant block of land and also looking at a weekend Farmers market in the club. But due to many things the idea was parked while more important things happened for the club.

Fast forward to these world changing events and David has resurrected the idea, albeit with a slight twist. This came about because initially some staff were asking if they could buy some essential supplies from the club. Those items that were disappearing from the shelves before they could end their shift to go shopping!

David and his team soon realised with over $45,000 worth of stock sitting there, why not open the offer to members too! Now they are ordering like crazy, as well as producing take away meals which the club will deliver within a 50km radius. David tells me they will deliver as far as 100km away with a little bit of a surcharge to help cover some costs.

David has all his 3 chefs working nonstop, staff are keeping busy and while some duties maybe changing for some, they are still employed.

The club is selling items such as fruit and veg, biscuits, chocolate, lollies, cake mixes, dairy products and fresh farm eggs. They are the only place in town that has flour, and one of the most requested items is margarine. Currently cleaning products are in short supply, but David is onto his contacts and suppliers to fill that gap too.

David said they have kept their prices low, and in most cases lower than the supermarkets. This is a not for profit initiative.

David explains, “The objective is to keep the staff employed for as long as possible and fill a gap in the economy for the community and get us over this terrible hump in our day to day life.

Congratulations David… a great story to share with all our members.
