NEW PUB OVERLOOKING HURSTVILLE PLAZA?

The Hurstville CBD could get a new $3.2 million pub with restaurant, three bars and 30 gaming machines under a development application lodged with Georges River Council.

The pub is planned for level-one of the new 14-storey One Hurstville Plaza office block at 288 Forest Road, opposite the entrance to Hurstville railway station.

The Statement of Environmental Effects prepared for the applicant, the Coombes Property Group shows the hotel will include an outdoor dining terrace area on level-one of the building, overlooking Hurstville Plaza and Forest Road.

The pub will have 721 square metres of internal and 339sqm of external terrace space.

A further external terrace area of approximately 168sqm sits atop an awning overhanging Council’s plaza area. This space is owned by the Council and is the subject of a lease agreement that is currently being finalised between the Council and the Applicant and will not be used until the lease is executed.

There will be a main cocktail bar (servicing the dining area as well) and a smaller gaming room bar. Outdoor dining will include private garden dining to the east and an integrated retractable shade structure.

The gaming machines will be located away from the Forest Road and Hurstville Plaza frontages.

The gaming room will be on the northern side accommodating 30 gaming machines (with landscape screening to the northern boundary) as well as outdoor lounge and amenities. Planter boxes will line the balustrade of western balcony to disguise gaming room.

The SEE concluded that the proposed hotel would stimulate Hurstville’s night-time economy.

“The proposal is expected to have a positive impact in the community by increasing the diversity, provision and quality of night-time uses within the city centre, in line with strategic aspirations for Hurstville,” the SEE states.

The DA will be determined by the Georges River Local Planning Panel.
