SOME CLUBS ARE CHOOSING TO MOVE EARLY ON WAGE INCREASES

The Fair Work Commission’s decision this month means that the minimum wage is set to rise by 5.2%, an increase of around $40 per week.

Several leading Sydney clubs, Cabra-Vale Diggers, Club Burwood RSL and Club York, have decided with increasingly competitive staffing shortages, to bring forward the wage increases.

In their venues wage increases will coincide with the start of the new financial year, three months ahead of the Fair Work Commissions 1st October hospitality industry start date.

Angus Rimmer, CEO of Club York, explained his reasoning this week in an interview at 2GB.
