SPOTLIGHT ON MICHAEL JUDD

1.  Your name, your club and your position.

Michael Judd, Pottsville Beach Sports Club. General Manager

2. What is your biggest or has been your biggest challenge with the club and your role?

Over the past 12 and half months our clubs’ biggest challenge has been our food and restaurant operations. The food operation in any club is so important and to achieve a positive, consistent and profitable outcome isn’t always easy. To achieve good results, you must be 100% focused on the restaurant.  With our club being a medium to small club you have several other important departments to also focus on, making that balance always a challenging part of my role.

3. What has been some of your achievements or highlights since being at the club?

Pottsville Beach Sports Club has come a long way in the last few years with our first major development of the club being the creation of the Lawn Bar and play area which accommodates big kids and little kids. It is fully fenced and secure so parents can relax and unwind under the shade sailed area sipping on their favourite beverage while the kids play in the kids’ area within sight of their parents. We can also utilise this area for functions and events.

In the last year the club’s interior received a complete make over with a new restaurant, carpet, decor and gaming room layout. The club was also fortunate to be awarded government grants for a power generator in case of power outages and solar panels to reduce the cost of electricity and make club more sustainable.

4. Is there a piece of advice or something compelling you have learnt that you can pass on to our readers and up and coming managers?

Whilst we all want thriving, successful clubs we can’t forget about the grass roots of what clubs are designed for which is our local communities and members. My belief is you must always give back to the communities, spend money on your club make it look presentable and something to be proud of, plus invest in new and improved technology. Your club is owned by the members so to me it’s important to make them proud of their club.

5. Outside of the club and your role there. Do you have any hobbies or passions… tell us a bit about you?

Living on the Tweed Coast there are so many great beaches to enjoy. My wife and I enjoy dining out at many of the great restaurants and venues on the coast. Golf is my sport of choice – I love to have a hit with my mates but need to make more time to do it.
