THE BETTER WAY TO FRONTLINE RECRUITMENT

Some clubs and pubs still do their own frontline recruitment – placing and vetting applications through sites like Seek, spending a lot of time and money assessing entry level applicants and then going through the normal group induction and training process. That takes a lot of time and a lot of money.

But there is a better way.

Barrington’s, in conjunction with ClubNSW, run a Job Ready program that sources, train and then matches the right applicants for the right venue. Best of all the program is fully government funded, so free of charge to the venue.

Job Ready provides the necessary skills for entry-level employment into the club industry. The course provides the foundation skills required to become a customer service and hospitality champion. During the course, participants will have the opportunity to be involved in practical exercises in a simulated Club environment. The curriculum of Job Ready has even been specifically created to address the current needs and dynamics of Clubs.

The program works for both Clubs as well as employees.  Like Tim Lloyd, who trained at Blacktown Workers Club and is now working at Seven Hills RSL.

Tim found himself over 50 and redundant in the IT industry. He thought hospitality seemed like a growth industry so thought it was time to give it a try.  When a former colleague recommended the Job Ready Course to him, it seemed like a great entry point.

He said the course gave him a great grounding in lots of aspects – Food Safety, RSA and RCG, Personal Grooming, Industry Standards and what to expect when dealing with customers.  He got to speak with different recruiters, found out about the JobsInClubs recruitment site and was offered opportunities for short and long term employment.

Tim is currently working at the Seven Hills Group and his roles include bar service, housekeeping, gaming and Keno. He’s also recently started working on the door.

Besides his role at the club, Tim was also able to sign up with National Workforce during the course and has worked at a number of events and stadiums across Sydney.

Tim said,  “The Job Ready Program really works.  It helped me get a start in a new industry and I think it is a great place for anyone to enter the industry.”

“We have found the Barringtons Job Ready Program a useful tool in our recruiting process, have had a number of staff gain part-time and full-time employment and always consider the applicants that the Job Ready team put forward.”     Corey Fletcher, Group Operations Manager, Seven Hills Group
