WHAT DOES COVID-19 MEAN FOR AGE?

When Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that all non-essential gatherings of more than 500 people should be suspended from Monday 16 March, due to the spread of COVID-19, our industry was immediately shocked by the forced cancellation of industry events.

We’ve since experienced the unprecedented closure of our venues and a dramatic change to our lifestyles.

Organisers of the Australasian Gaming Expo (AGE) (scheduled to be held in Sydney in August), have been working with their venue (ICC Sydney), event suppliers, and industry to develop a strategy to keep preparation for the event moving forward in these difficult times.

“One of the ways we can continue to support our industry is to keep AGE planning on track to the best of our ability”, said Chris Muir CEO of the Gaming Technologies Association. “Given current events, many will keenly look forward to the community and opportunities that the AGE presents”.

Muir added, “Of course, we will be guided by the government advice, and we’re keenly following all the updates to this advice.”

No one will dispute that the COVID-19 pandemic is providing unique disruption, and everyone’s focus is on the current challenges of running a business at a time of severe uncertainty.

The current Order under the Public Health Act 2010 to prohibit gatherings of 500 or more people in outdoor spaces and 100 people or more in indoor spaces, expires on 18 June 2020, almost two months before AGE is due to open its doors.

AGE organisers are monitoring government advice and will continue to be guided by it.

The Australasian Gaming Expo is scheduled to be held at ICC Sydney from 11 to 13 August 2020. Visit the official website at https://austgamingexpo.com/  to find out more information.
