Star on brink of collapse with ‘uncertainty’ about future after trading halt
The embattled casino operator had until 10am (AEDT) on Friday to post its half-yearly report, but missed that deadline, leading the ASX to announce trading on Star shares would be temporarily paused. The company, which operates casinos in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, warned shareholders in January that it was down to just $79 million in the bank at the end of 2024 after burning through $107 million in the previous three months.

Promise for 2-year freeze on alcohol tax for draught beer
Anthony Albanese has promised a two-year freeze on the much hated alcohol tax for draught beer, however not all drinkers will benefit from the “modest” cost-of-living win. In the hours after the announcement, the Liberal Party came out in support of the new policies, with shadow treasurer Angus Taylor saying 4000 pubs have gone under in the last three years.
