QLD HOTELS: NEW PROGRAM CONNECTING JOBSEEKERS AND EMPLOYERS

The Queensland Hotels Association (QHA) is set to trial a program that will help jobseekers and employees connect after it received funding under the first round of the Queensland Government’s $1.5 million Growing Workforce Participation Fund.

QHA will use the funding to deliver a training program called #HospitalityFirstStep which will provide a recruitment pathway into industry by providing entry-level training to jobseekers.

QHA’s #HospitalityFirstSteps program is a five-day training course which will focus on essential specialist skills for the industry – bar, restaurant, gaming, housekeeping and customer service. The course will provide Industry Awareness Experiences as well as supervised assessments at licensed premises.

QHA is one of nine industry and community groups that have each been awarded up to $200,000 under the Growing Workforce Participation Fund.

The fund will support Queensland employers to address the labour and skills shortages they are facing by improving the ways they engage with disadvantaged people who are looking for work.
