VGCCC RELEASES ATTITUDES TO GAMBLING REPORT

For the last 3 years the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) has conducted the “Community Attitudes towards Gambling” Survey to understand and monitor community sentiment, attitudes to gambling and gambling behaviours.

The majority of Victorians continued to strongly agree that ‘gambling can be addictive’, that ‘gambling can negatively impact families’ and ‘gambling can negatively impact communities’. However, there was a slight softening on the latter two measures compared to two years ago.

There are signs that the general concern about gambling has declined with around half of Victorians surveyed (47%) not participating in gambling in the past year. (Maybe they missed the big horse race? – Ed.). Only 16% of respondents admitted to being regular gamblers who gambled more than once a month.

The report also stated: The most frequent gambling activities related to lottery tickets, scratchies, bingo and raffles, with around one in five Victorians claiming to participate in these at least four times a month, and 38% participating at least monthly. There were statistically significant increases in monthly participation for racing, pokies, and sports betting compared to 2023.
