CASHLESS TRIAL FOCUS SWITCHES TO DIGITAL WALLETS
Following feedback from Ebet’s early participation in the Liquor & Gaming NSW cashless gaming trials, the government has shifted its focus from Cashless Gaming and bank transfers to digital wallets.
At the start of the trials earlier this year, Ebet leveraged their existing cardit technology and combined it with linkit – an application that facilitates near real-time funds transfer via the New Payments Platform Australia (NPPA). While there is still the ability to facilitate bank transfers with linkit, the customer focus is now on Digital Wallets, which at this stage of the trials, removes considerable barriers to entry for patrons.
The most recent trials, which have just commenced with Mounties Harbord Diggers Club and Canterbury Leagues Club, highlight Ebet’s tapit technology – a cardless solution that allows patrons to transfer funds to and from EGMs via their mobile phones. This system uses an Ebet-developed app NFC and Bluetooth technology within the Player Interface Module (Pathway).
The process is quick and user-friendly, taking less than two minutes to onboard. Tapit is currently being trialled across more than 800 machines as part of the NSW cashless gaming initiative.
Attracting enough patrons to participate in these trials is essential for their success. Based on Ebet’s feedback and recommendations, shifting the focus to digital wallets is expected to help achieve the necessary engagement levels.
In Australia, mobile or digital wallet usage is now double that of cash transactions, with over 80% of people using a mobile wallet regularly. This trend clearly indicates how customers prefer to conduct transactions today. Digital wallets are apps like Apple Pay or Google Pay, which are either preinstalled or downloadable on smartphones. Importantly, clubs do not need a dedicated app for digital membership cards – the customer’s mobile wallet is sufficient.
Ebet takes a proactive approach by closely collaborating with government departments overseeing the trials. Being first with cashless gaming, digital wallets and now tapit, Ebet is proud to contribute to shaping future regulations, ensuring that new initiatives are practical for venues of all sizes. The sustainability of a vibrant and caring industry is at the heart of what we do.
