MERIVALE’S PLANS FOR MAJOR HOSPITALITY PRECINCTS

In Oct 2024 Merivale announced the development of an innovative hospitality zone in Sydney. The recent purchase of a large carpark in the Melbourne CBD has the potential for a similar transformation.

Sydney

In October 2024 Merivale unveiled a master plan for a proposed new entertainment precinct in Sydney. The plan entails adapting several Sydney CBD heritage buildings into a multi-offering hospitality precinct. The new precinct will inter-connect through five buildings located between King, York, Clarence and Barrack Streets in Sydney and will include a boutique hotel, diverse hospitality offerings, wellness facilities and premium office spaces. The hospitality offerings will include restaurants, a sports bar, and nightclub plus other potential themed lounge bars.

At this stage the plan for Merivale’s Sydney entertainment precinct is in the community consultation and engagement process in preparation for a formal development application. Merivale plan to retain and enhance all the heritage aspects of the buildings.

Melbourne

Last week news confirmed Merivale may have similar plans in Melbourne following the purchase of a large CBD carpark in Little Collins Street. Justin Hemmes has pledged to transform the site into a high-end precinct with bars, accommodation, a sky garden, retail stores, and even an art gallery.

There are current use lease contracts in place for the building which will mean the new precinct is only in very early planning stages and my take some time for a development to be approved.
