RANDWICK WOMAN YET TO WAKE FROM $6.59 MILLION EASTER KENO DREAM

While the rest of Australia was cracking open Easter eggs on Sunday, a Randwick woman became Australia’s newest multi-millionaire after cracking a major Keno jackpot.  The Sydney woman held a Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot winning entry in game 544 on Sunday 21 April 2019, and scored the entire jackpot of $6,594,139.20.  Confirming her win with a Keno official this morning, the winner admitted she still felt like it was all a dream.

“I think I’ve woken up now,” she laughed.

“I still sort of think I’m asleep. I can’t believe it.

“This might be real. I think I might have actually won!

“I’ve had a few nights out over the years, but I don’t think I’ll forget that one in a while.

“I haven’t told anyone yet. I’m in shock!”

The Keno Mega Millions jackpot has been steadily climbing since it was last won on 10 August last year. Back then, a Newcastle man scored a $7.89 million prize from an entry he purchased at the Northumberland Hotel in Lambton.

The latest Keno Mega Millions winner described how she discovered she had suddenly become a multi-millionaire on Sunday night.

“For some reason, I grabbed two tickets that night. I don’t know if I had a feeling or what. I checked the first one, and it had won $4, but when I checked the next ticket, the machine didn’t say how much but said the prize was too big to be paid out there,” she explained.

‘I thought that was a bit weird. Then I saw on the screen in the club that the Keno Mega Millions jackpot had been won.

“I said ‘you’ve got to be kidding!’.

“I’ve won $600 a few times, and normally I might win $18, but this is just something else.”

Although a multi-million-dollar prize is set to land in her bank account, the Sydney professional woman said she planned to keep working.

“I love my job, so this definitely won’t affect that,” she said.

“It will mean I can help my family.

“I’d like a holiday as well, but the rest can just be a safety net for the future.

“I’m not a flashy person, so I’m really just looking forward to the financial security.”

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her winning Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot entry at Randwick Club, 135 Alison Road, Randwick.

Randwick Club President Vic Smith said his venue had never sold a winning Keno entry of this magnitude before. “We’re over the moon that a member of The Randwick Club has won $6.5 million playing Keno in our venue,” he said. “It’s such a thrill for the Club to have played a role in helping to change one of our regular patrons’ lives. “As you can imagine, the atmosphere inside the club was electric when it was revealed that the Keno Mega Millions’ winner had bought the $6.5 million ticket here.”

In 2018, Keno crowned 16 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $36.47 million. Ten of these major winners were from New South Wales and the ACT.

New South Wales players win $43.26 million each month on average playing Keno in pubs and clubs across the state.

Last year in New South Wales alone, players bought 43.26 million Keno tickets and won $519.06 million in cash prizes, including 973 individual 7, 8, 9, and 10 Spot jackpot prizes.
