CLUB TAKES IT TO THE STREET

Street food is a vibrant and growing phenomenon across Sydney. Portable stalls, carts and food trucks showcase sweet, savoury, local or exotic food delights in a casual, outdoor, social setting that’s fun for the whole family to enjoy.

And it seems that Sydney…and Club Marconi members and guests can’t get enough of them.

So much so that Club Marconi was the scene of the first inaugural street food awards held across two weekends in early October. Forty vendors battled it out to take home the very first titles in 2017 I Love Street Food Awards.

Club Marconi are no slouches when it comes to organising successful large-scale festivals. Their two annual culturally inspired community festivals celebrating Wine & Chestnuts and Italian Republic Day attract upwards of 25,000 people each.  And the I Love Street Food Awards looks like it could head in the same direction.

The festival celebrated the rapid rise of Sydney’s sophisticated street food vendors, and the winners were decided by people voting on the day for their favourites.

Festival organiser and fellow food vendor Rocco Pitarelli said: “For years we have recognised the best restaurants with either chef’s hats or stars, and now it’s time that street food and all the small businesses behind it, received credibility.”

When asked why he partnered with Club Marconi for this inaugural festival, Mr Pitarelli said that “the club has a lot of experience with organising, running and promoting successful festivals and that they just do things so professionally. They are really the heart of the community in Western Sydney and the club was the ideal location” for what he hopes will be an annual event.

The $5,000 first prize was won by Parilla Argenchino Catering for their South American BBQ.
