CLUBS REACH OUT A HELPING HAND FOR FARMERS
After seeing the devastation of the North West Region with the drought, Wendy Mills, Assistant Manager at Nambucca RSL wondered how the Club could help out. She initially thought it was going to be the clubs project. However, after further thought, realised the more clubs involved in the project, the more they would be able to achieve. She thought it would be perfect for the Mid North Coast Zone to assist their neighbour the North West Zone in their time of need. After all, this is what Clubs do best.
Nambucca RSL created a flyer and sent it through to Zone President Glen Buckley to distribute it to other clubs in their Zone. Judy Ward from Macksville Club jumped on board straight away.
We are asking for donations of non-perishable food, baby products and toiletry items to assist the farmers. We’ve now extended the appeal to bales of hay and lucerne to feed the animals as well.
The appeal will run until the 12th August. We’ll collect the food items and hopefully, a transport company may come on board and transport the goods. If not, Nambucca RSL staff and I will convoy the goods over.
Wendy has had a great response to date with not only food items but blanket, shoes and clothing being donated, some brand new. “I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our community along with other community groups,” she said. “We have had great coverage from the radio and TV station NBN came down and did an interview. I’m hoping this will spread the word and we’ll have an even greater response to our appeal.”
