CMAA ASIAN CONFERENCE BURSARY TOUR WRAP UP

Nine recipients of the 2016 CMAA National Bursary Awards have just returned from attending the CMA Asian Club Managers’ Conference hosted by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Happy Valley.

The Conference was held over two days and featured an array of international speakers and specialists in club management who presented a quality program of workshops to over 150 delegates hailing from Singapore, China, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Australia and Hong Kong.

The conference began the previous night with the Conference Delegate Welcome Cocktail Party hosted by the exclusive Ladies Recreation Club situated high above Hong Kong on Old Peak Road.

Our group were introduced to all of the delegates and enjoyed a wonderful casual function dining experience where the room setup included five individual food service stations including a parmesan cheese wheel where the chef added chicken risotto into the wheel and melted the cheese through before plating.

The conference program highlighted topics on such as Cyber Fraud, Leadership, Innovation in Fitness, Employee Engagement & Retention, Crisis Management, Wine Panel, The Role of Nutrition in Catering, Digital Systems Management and more.

A tour of three very exclusive private member clubs, the Hong Kong Club, the American Club, and the China Club were included in the conference for delegates to enjoy. The catering was phenomenal and the quality of the facilities remarkable.

From Hong Kong the group travelled by Jet- boat to Macau to attend the G2E Gaming Expo and a back of house tour at Wynn Macau by ex-pat Craig Mitchell VP of Slots.

Tours of the casinos in Macau was certainly an eye opener for many of the group who had not been to Macau before. Over 47 casinos now operate in Macau with building underway for many more.

All in all the tour was very beneficial in that it provided an opportunity for networking, education and experiencing the various concepts and designs of an array of hospitality venues such as hotels, bars, restaurants, casinos and facilities.

The 2017 CMAA National Bursary Program will be released in August for members to apply and you are encouraged to also take advantage of these unique professional development opportunities the CMAA offer.
