‘FATTY’ AND ‘STERLO’ RAISE THE ROOF FOR JUNIORS

St Marys Rugby League Club hosted two of the NRL’s most celebrated players and personalities at the weekend – Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin and Peter ‘Sterlo’ Sterling OAM at its annual Sportsman’s Dinner.

Some of the best sportspeople in the business came together in the Boronia Showroom to raise funds for our junior rugby league stars of the future at the gala event.

Between sharing anecdotes on league and life, the ‘Laughs and Legends’ duo faced a series of questions and provided insightful answers, in a night that was not to be missed.

With vibrant stage entertainment provided by MC Jay Parrino and Brad Blaze, the showroom was buzzing with generous donations through a host of popular fundraisers, live and silent auctions, and raffles.

The night, which attracted many of Saints’ major sponsors, players, fans and families, is the brainchild of our Rugby League Manager Adam Przybyla, who began this annual event back in 2017.

“The fundraiser aids in providing Saints Juniors with a cultural experience and enables players to obtain the strong values of respect and pride, while representing St Marys Rugby League Club,” Mr Przybyla said.

“This year our U/13s will travel to Cairns to play the Cairns Brothers, learn about indigenous culture, and experience community life in northern QLD.

“The five-day trip in October will see 85 kids, parents, players and staff experience a Kuranda WWII Army Duck Tour in the Rainforestation Nature Park; a crocodile adventure tour and coastal escapades.

“These experiences enhance our player development program and give our young people opportunities they may not normally be able to have thanks to our generous sponsors and fundraisers.”

2024 marks the 116th year of rugby league for Saints, which boasts 58 teams with more than 1000 registered players.

We currently have 11 Saints juniors in this year’s Panthers top 30 (Brian To’o, Jarome Luai, Izack Tago, Lindsay Smith, Moses Leota, Soni Luke, Sunia Turuva, Luke Sommerton, Trent Toelau, Billy Scott and Harrison Hassett), and eight Saints players that have entered our pathways playing in NRL (Bryce Cartwright, Eels; Maika Sivo, Eels; Corey Waddell, Sea Eagles; Brent Naden, Wests Tigers; Tom Eisenhuth, Dragons; Siosifa Talakai, Sharks; Aaron Pene, Storm; Brent Naden, Wests Tigers).
