They work with a number of Sydney pubs and clubs and recently surveyed 20 of Australia’s leading food bloggers and influencers. The ‘Food Blogger Appetite – 2017 ‘ report outlines the participants’ observations on the Sydney food scene and features upcoming food trends, what social media channels you should be investing in and methods of engagement amongst other insights.

Influencer marketing is having a major impact in the food space.  With the rise of social media seeing this group of food lovers growing a following of nearly 1 million people, often exceeding the reach of national publications, they simply can’t be ignored.

Some of the main take-outs from the report include:

  • HOP ON INSTAGRAM

80 percent of food bloggers say it’s the platform to watch this year.  Instagram reaches a whopping 5 million Australians each month.

However, 45% of bloggers say food businesses are getting it wrong when it comes to posting regularly, consistently or are using poor quality imagery on social media.

  • LIGHTEN UP A LITTLE

60 percent of food bloggers say natural light makes for more Instaworthy food shots.

  • BIGGEST MISTAKES

The top faux pas made by venues include:

  • Inconsistent or irregular social presence
  • Use of poor quality imagery
  • Being unwelcoming to bloggers
  • Not connecting or engaging with their social media audience
  • Not reposting imagery and content from influencers
  • GETTING IT RIGHT

Bloggers think Sydney venues do well when it comes to:

  • Fresh smoothies & juices quality
  • Promoting what’s happening in the kitchen
  • Better coffee
  • Evolving with the times
  • Upping their presentation
  • Being innovative with menus
  • Being active on social media
  • Recognising the influence of bloggers
  • Quality: Fresh produce & good chefs
  • AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT

They also offer some tips on where venues could improve:

  • Social media
  • Copying trends
  • Providing limited all-day breakfast options
  • Not being flexible with customer requests
  • Poor customer service
