GASSAR CHAIRS – WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Gasser Chair Company has been designing, building and perfecting the art of commercial seating for over 70 years.

It all began last century in the mid 1940’s when three brothers Louis, Roger and George Gasser got together to embark on a new venture. With a few ideas and very little money, they began providing services to local companies in their industrial hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, assembling aluminium storm windows and screens, welding aluminium beer kegs, and other odd jobs.

They also began designing and manufacturing their own aluminium-frame dinette sets. They had some success selling their tables and chairs to local residents before George loaded a few chairs into the back of his car and headed to Chicago to exhibit their wares at the National Restaurant Show. People were impressed with the highly durable, lightweight chairs, and he left the show with a nice big order and a whole new market to develop.

Gasser branched into casino seating after George, this time on a business trip to Lake Tahoe, Nevada noticed that slot players had no place to sit. According to company lore, Gasser convinced casino boss Bill Harrah that players who borrowed stools from a nearby bar stayed at the machines longer than those forced to stand.

The company’s first casino product was a basic stool with a flat cushion. “Way back in the gaming market, the majority of people would stand in front of a slot machine,” said a Gasser spokesperson. “When seating came on the scene, it was very basic. It was just to put something in front of that machine.”

“Today, it’s become much more about the comfort level, the ergonomics. It’s all about what’s going to make that player feel really good sitting in that chair and to continue to put their money in that machine.”

Over the years, the Gasser Chair Company redefined seating décor for the hospitality industry. It developed a durable, lightweight aluminium frame that offered a new and different choice of frame, finishes and colours. They also introduced a flexible bracket to connect a backrest, which then led to Gasser’s ‘Comfort Zone’ seating line.

Gasser also introduced its 10-year warranty – the longest of its kind for commercial seating.

Today, the Gasser Chair company remains a family-owned business, with the second and third generations of the Gasser family continuing on the company’s legacy.

Gasser gaming chairs can be found at commercial and Native American casinos throughout America, as well as on cruise ships, at casinos in Macau and at clubs across Australia.

Gasser Chairs will be showcasing its range at the Australasian Hospitality and Gaming Expo at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, from 7-8 March. The company will also have a display at the Australasian Gaming Expo at the ICC Sydney Darling Harbour, from 14-16 August.
