GOLD COAST ARMED ROBBERY

Three tavern workers were tied up and forced into a disabled toilet during a terrifying armed robbery on the Gold Coast.

Two men are still on the run after entering the Ashmore Tavern about 3.40am on Wednesday.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the men, who were wearing gloves and covering their faces, smashed a glass door to enter.

Gold Coast detectives allege they were armed with a firearm.

Two men allegedly forced their way into the Ashmore Tavern tying up three employees with zip ties in a bathroom before fleeing with cash.

The spokesman said the men confronted three employees – two men and a woman – threatening them and forcing them into a disabled toilet at the tavern.

The trio were then restrained with zip ties.

The QPS spokesman said the men stole cash before fleeing into nearby bushland.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Police attended the scene and tried to track the pair with a dog squad with no success.

Investigations are ongoing.
