The Laundy Hotel Groups iconic Woolwich Pier Hotel officially relaunched last week after an extensive 3-month renovation.

The two-level venue originally built in 1885 has adopted a contemporary European look, courtesy of architects Alexander & Co, who were also behind The Morrison and Watsons Bay Hotel.

Justine Laundy led the hotel’s redesign and said the history of the venue “became obvious as we peeled back its layers”.

“We revitalised the best aesthetic elements of this heritage and combined it with a fresh eclectic mix of European and LA style — with comfort emerging,” she said.

“It’s not uncommon for four generations to meet in this hotel, so we needed a modern style with a nod to nostalgia.”


The new-look spaces include the brasserie ‘The Eatery’; the updated dining room with marble accents in pink and grey tones, ‘The Parlour’, a casual bar/sports bar with marble tables, leather booth seating and velvet armchairs, and an outdoor terrace referred to as ‘The Beer Garden.’

Upstairs, there’s The Social indoor dining room and a 70-seat balcony that offers views of Cockatoo Island and Sydney Harbour.

To complement the new look, head chef Glenn Tabuldo has created a new menu with what he said was a modern European brasserie-style menu with a Japanese twist.

The hotel has kept its pub classics such as the favourite chicken pot pie and added dishes like miso salmon with squid ink risotto, salmon roe, sesame mayo, togarashi, edamame, enoki with ponzu.
