SPOTLIGHT ON TONY REICHELT
1.Your name, your club and your position.
Anthony John (Tony) Reichelt, Secretary-Manager of Lockhart Ex-Servicemen’s Club.

What is your biggest or has been your biggest challenge with the club and your role?
I was appointed Secretary Manager in 2017 and achieving viability of the Club’s operations has easily been the biggest challenge. The club had made operational losses for the last 5 years and they are just not sustainable.
Getting enough community engagement to realise the potential risk of losing the Club was also a big challenge.
-
What have been some of your achievements or highlights since being at the club?
Reviewing most of the existing supply contracts and minimising recurrent expenses.
I managed to gain better discounts for alcohol purchases by moving away from the brewers for packaged alcohol, and now purchasing through the local IGA liquor outlet with much better savings.
The successful operation/implementation of Ideal POS – which allows us to accurately access our sales and stock data.
Getting the Directors to now contemplate drawing up a Strategic Plan!

Is there a piece of advice or something compelling you have learnt that you can pass on to our readers and up and coming managers.
Make sure you check every single invoice that comes into the Club and question if it is really needed, or if it can it be done at a better price by someone else.

Outside of the club and your role there. Do you have any hobbies or passions? Tell us a bit about you?
I’m a keen AFL supporter and have been a supporter of Adelaide Crows since they came into the Competition and have never wavered.
It is great to return to the town I lived in 30 years ago when I was appointed as the deputy shire clerk of the Council back in the 80’s when I was instrumental in getting the original Verandah Town Festival launched.
That festival has now morphed into the Spirit of Land Festival and Picnic Races, but the heritage of the main streetscape remains from the vision of so many years ago!
