THE AUSTRALASIAN GAMING SEMINARS

This year, for the first time in three decades, the Australasian Gaming Expo (AGE) did not fill the halls of Sydney’s exhibition centre, it did not bring together the industry, nor did it demonstrate the latest in gaming and hospitality products and services. Sadly, this year it did not have an opportunity to live up to its usual extravagant fashion.

With government rules prohibiting the operation of the AGE, this year’s Australasian Gaming Expo Seminars ran online.

In his opening address, Chris Muir, CEO of the Gaming Technologies Association (GTA), indicated how saddened he was that the AGE was not able to proceed in 2020.

“Last year I was feeling a little daunted being responsible for the AGE for the first time. This year I could only wish that I was worried about how the expo would live up to its heritage, ” said Mr Muir.

“Our digital seminar sessions will keep you up to date with the thoughts of some of our industry’s leaders and show our collective determination to get to the other side of COVID ready and able to be back to business,” he went on to say.

A collective determination was apparent in all the sessions.

Matt Ballesty, Executive General Manager of Gaming at SkyCity Entertainment Group, gave an exclusive inside tour into their Auckland flagship property. In this session, you will hear about the changes made in their gaming and non-gaming business, including challenges and lessons learned.

In a session led by Patrick Hatch, Business Reporter for the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, top business analysts discussed the impact that COVID-19 has had on the gaming industry.

With a focus on pubs and hotels, Clyde Mooney, Founder of PUBtic interviewed a panel of experts to determine what affect the pandemic is having on the value of venues and what owners and operators should be reviewing now.

Other subjects included in the sessions include an IMGL Masterclass titled ‘Damage Assessment’ and a look at how foodservice is changing.

A discussion on online gambling continues the debate on regulation, and a keynote session inspires leadership.

Marketing during a crisis and customers in our brave new world were topics also examined, and an early summary of the results of the Australasian Gaming Survey was provided.

The seminar sessions are now available as play-on-demand recordings, with the online seminar format already attracting a 125% increase in the average session attendance over AGE 2019.
