THE STAR RISES ON THE GOLD COAST
Jupiters Hotel and Casino, operated by The Star Entertainment Group, has a new name and brand, having become The Star Gold Coast as of March 30 this year.
The transition to The Star comes as the property redevelopment enters a new phase. Six new food and beverage offerings, 596 refurbished hotel rooms and a luxury poolside experience are among the already-completed features.
A new six-star luxury hotel at the front of the property will open before the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and an additional 200-metre hotel and apartment tower has been approved.
The alignment follows parent company The Star Entertainment Group’s transition to a consolidated brand in November 2015. The Star Entertainment Group’s managing director Queensland Geoff Hogg (pictured) said the transition to The Star was another exciting milestone in the property’s 30-year history.
“The Gold Coast’s reputation as a destination continues to strengthen with both leisure and business travellers, so we are working to create a broad offering that will help to support this well into the future.”
At the glass peak of the 17-storey, six-star hotel will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class dining and entertainment venture with an exclusive high rollers suite just below.
In addition, the gaming floor of the current building will be built out to join a new glass-walled sports bar on level one of the new hotel.
The hotel’s 17-storey height is the same as the current hotel’s 21 floors, with higher ceilings built into the new plans to add a new dimension of luxury. High ceilings and plush interiors are all part of the plans but a new approach to service is what Mr Hogg said would be the drawcard.
“There won’t really be a check-in, you’ll arrive at the hotel, have a quiet drink, we talk about the hotel and take you up to your room — we’re moving away from the checking-in experience to more of just a welcome,” he said.
“In some cases, we’ll actually meet and greet them at the airport.”
The latest stage of The Star’s $840 million plan for Broadbeach will be completed in time for the Commonwealth Games, after which they hope to start construction of their first residential tower.
“We’ll be going out for pre-sales for some of those apartments later this year,” Mr Hogg said. “We’ll hopefully be going to tender for that development this calendar year and getting really under way after the Commonwealth Games.”
